Lineal College Football Championships


This site is dedicated to tracking Lineal college football championship belts history. 
Each belt originated on the 1st game played by two teams in the collection of teams represented by each belt and can be only be lost when the current champion 
  is playing a team CURRENTLY in the collection of teams represented by the belt. For example Nebraska played BIGTEN teams before joining the BIGTEN but was 
  only eligible to contend to win the BIGTEN lineal championship after joining the BIGTEN as a full time member and could previously only win the BIG12 Lineal Championship.
The UNIVERAL Lineal belt can be won by ANY team the current champion plays regardless of conference and including exhibition games. This bel originates in the 
  first College football game between Nov 6, 1869 Rutgers vs Princeton 
The POWER FIVE 'P5' Lineal belt can only be won by a CURRENT power5 conference team. The first game between 2 such teams was Virginia vs Duke on Nov 27, 1890. 
 This belt is not active when the current champion plays any team that is not currently in a Power Five conference (ACC, BIG12, BIG10, PAC12, SEC  +ND). 
 This belt retroactively includes the 4 new members of BIG 12 : UCF, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston
Each of the CONFERENCE Lineal belts are only at stake when the current champion played a team that is CURRENTLY in the conference and any game played against 
  non-conference opponents will not be a conference lineal championship defense. The conference lineal championship is only available to current conference members. 


The links below show every game played for each lineal belt and also includes The AP rank of each team, the date and score of the game, the current  
 ELO ranking of each team, the conference each team was in when the game was played and any special notes about the game like neutral site, bowl game, 
 or championship game. Each game has the current statistics for the current champion and the opponent challenger and shows the #Number of times the team 
 held the Lineal Championship and teams (WIN-LOSS) record in lineal championship games. 
 The current champion steak of holding the Lineal belt is also maintained as well as a steaks of consecutive unsuccessful title defenses noted with an asterisk. 


* NOTE: The BIG12 Lineal belt originated with the MVIAA conference and transformed into BIG8 and then the BIG12 Lineal belt when the conference 
  merged with the SWC and the SWC Lineal belt was terminated with University of Texas as the last lineal Champion in the final SWC season. 


* NOTE: The LAMBERT Lineal belt is a mythical belt for the collection of northeast schools that played regularly before joining seperate conference along with. 
*  recent additions.
